Another worthy recipient is thrilled to be the beneficiary of a donation from the 100 Women Who Care Melfort group.

The Melfort Arts Council received $10,000 from the fundraising initiative this week.

Arts Council Chair Joanne Bolen told northeastNOW she was “over the moon” when they were selected to receive the donation.

She said the donation cemented the idea that Melfort and the surrounding area was invested in the Melfort Arts Council.

“They want us to continue working towards a bigger and better and more stable arts (presence) within Melfort and area,” Bolen said. “I’ve always known that the arts would do well in this area, but now this really just reinforces how everybody around here is wanting the arts.”

Bolen said the 100 Women Who Care initiative is a great idea to highlight the efforts and raise money for local non-profit organizations.

“(Before the event) I was thinking ‘even if we don’t get the $10,000 it was still a win because we were able to present this information to 100 women who are willing to give money to organizations,” explained Bolen. “These people are there wanting to make their community better.”

In their presentation, the Melfort Arts Council highlighted six different areas that could benefit from the donation. They include the proposed Arts and Cultural Hub at the Historic Post Office, supporting live performances, enhanced art education in schools, art exhibitions, holding additional workshops with more instructors, and the Shannon Elder Memorial Mural.

Bolen said she is extremely happy and humbled that they have so much support from Melfort and the surrounding community. She thanked all volunteers and board members past and present for their hard work and dedication.

North East Outreach and Support Services and the Northeast Christian Academy Melfort were the other finalists at the 100 Women Who Care presentations. The organization donates $10,000 to a worthy non-profit organization four times per year. The North Central Health Care Foundation received the first donation earlier this year.
