The Melfort Mustangs have hired a new Director of Marketing, Business and Office Administration.

Kelsey Pederson will be taking over the role, a name already quite familiar to the Mustangs’ organization and community of Melfort.

Pederson was born and raised here and has served on the Mustang board the last two seasons.

She believes her experience working with the board will serve her well, as she now transitions to working for the board.

“Being a board member definitely has helped a lot in this, knowing what needs to happen and when it needs to happen. It’s also been really good to build a relationship with everyone on the board, as I step into this position, knowing that I can go to any of them when I need help or have questions. Having them there to support me is a really good feeling,” Pederson told northeastNOW.

“It’ll definitely be a different dynamic, but once I get in the office, I’m sure it’ll start to feel more natural and it’ll be all good.”

Pederson began in her role today (Monday, July 15) as she begins a few short summer months of sales before hockey returns.

She is currently focused on the ice and rink board adds, before welcoming the players back to Melfort, as she ‘builds relationships with the people and businesses that help the team continue to run year after year.’

The hope is that there will be more interested people out there, especially considering how well the Stangs did this past season.

“We want to keep the image of SJHL Champions and National runner-ups, that our team has created. I know our season ticket sales are up a little bit already, which is a wonderful things, so we just want to keep that level of excitement up and get new people in here to support the boys,” Pederson added.

Other requirements of the job include the game-day operations, as well as supporting the club on various social media channels and their website.

Pederson said she’ll be reaching out to both the SJHL and its 11 other member teams to see what’s worked in the past and garner ideas on the best way to showcase the Blue and Green.

Pederson was hired off the heels of former director of marketing, business and office administration, Hana Grace served one year of her two-year contract.

Prior to Grace, Mat Barrett held the role for two years, along with the play-by-play broadcasting duties.

“I’m very excited with my new job,” Pederson concluded. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a few years. When Matt Barrett left, I had considered applying but decided to wait, so I’m glad we came up again and I’m very thankful that the Mustangs have given me the opportunity to do this as well.”

“We are extremely excited to have Kelsey take on this position with the Melfort Mustangs,” added Team President, Jordan Lee. “Being a former board member and volunteer prior to that, she has in-depth knowledge of many of the tasks and procedures that this job entails. We can’t wait to see what she can do in this role.”
