Back Alley Tour returns

Back Alley Tour returning to Melfort July 18

Jul 16, 2024 | 2:33 PM

An event highlighting artists from around the northeast is coming to Melfort this week.

The 2024 Back Alley Tour will be held Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. in the back alley behind Northern Lights Gallery in Melfort.

Organizer Sandra Dancey told northeastNOW the eighth annual event will be the biggest yet.

“It’s bigger, there’s lots more participants, there’s a little more food, the music’s pretty cool, scholarships are being given out again,” Dancey said. “More artists, wider variety.”

Artists specialize in everything from pottery, blacksmithing, watercolours, resin work, woodcarving, quilting, beadwork, and much more. The Lenvale Elevators will be performing on the entertainment stage, and the event will also feature the Melfort Youth Evolution Kids Festival.

Dancey added the Back Alley Tour is a big hit with artists from around the region, but many of them have local ties that make the event even more significant to them.

Thursday’s forecast is for sunshine and a high approaching 30 C, but Dancey said there will be cool treats being sold at TJ’s Pizza. Many of the artists also have canopies they set up to provide some shade in the back alley. Dancey said the Melfort Legion will also be open and they have air conditioning if people need a cool place to hang out.

Updates on the event can be found on the Northern Lights Gallery Facebook page.
