Jul 21, 2024 | 10:40 PM

A man who co-founded the River Valley Resilience Retreat south of Prince Albert, and whose career as a fire fighter has spanned over two decades, is now trying his hand at politics.

Jeff Reeder has announced his candidacy for the Prince Albert Carlton constituency as a candidate for the Saskatchewan Party.

In a statement released Sunday night, Reeder said he aims to channel his work ethic and extensive experience into politics, pledging to diligently serve the interests of Prince Albert Carlton’s constituents.

Reeder’s journey in public service began at the age of 15 as a volunteer firefighter, followed by three years in Emergency Medical Services after completing high school. He now boasts two decades with the Prince Albert Fire Department, accumulating 25 years of frontline experience in public safety.

Previously, Reeder served as the President of the Local 510 chapter of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Union. Nearly half of his career was dedicated to various executive roles within the union, advocating from local communities to higher levels of government.

In addition to his union work, Reeder is the Co-Chair and a founding member of the Sask First Responders Mental Health Committee, established in partnership with the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board. He also co-founded the River Valley Resilience Retreat, a Saskatchewan-based non-profit organization. This charity offers a tranquil retreat for Public Safety Personnel, Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families, providing a space to recover from Operational Stress Injuries and Post-Traumatic Stress.

Jeff and his wife have been married for 22 years, and together they have three teenage children.

Last May, current MLA Joe Hargrave announced he would not be seeking re-election, citing a desire to spend more time with family.

Embassy Church Pastor Meghan Mayer had previously announced plans to seek rhe nomination, but soon after withdrew.

Around the same time, the Sask Party confirmed a new candidate would be chosen within the next four or five weeks.

The winning nominee will run against Carolyn Brost Strom for the NDP party.
