Melfort looking for new public works director after Steffen switches jobs

Aug 14, 2024 | 11:32 AM

The City of Melfort will undergo some job shuffling.

Marley Seymour will have her final day as director of corporate services and city clerk on Friday, as she moves back to Manitoba to become the chief administrative officer with the Town of Lac du Bonnet.

It turns out the city didn’t need to look far to find her replacement.

Lydia Steffen will change positions from public works director to replace Seymour.

Steffen explained to northeastNOW why she made the move.

“When the position did become available it was something that I felt suited my academic background and (it was) a new opportunity at (city hall),” Steffen said.

Steffen said her time in the public works department helped her learn what it’s like working for a municipality, and that can help her in her new role.

“Where time is spent, how we are fiscally responsible, how decisions are made, and the processes involved in that,” she said.

While Steffen will have a lot to learn in her new role, she said having Marley around to help ease the transition will help tremendously.

Steffen was the director of public works for almost a year and a half. With her move to the director of corporate services and city clerk position taking place Aug. 19, the city has already advertised the open director of public works position.
