NCHCF donates furniture for Parkland Place residents

The North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) has helped make people’s rooms at Parkland Place a little homier.

The foundation was able to use over $21,000 in donations to help purchase items for Parkland Place, including 36 new bedside tables for resident rooms.

NCHCF Board Chair Peggy George told northeastNOW it’s always wonderful that they receive donations to be used to help people.

She said a lot of the donations they receive are memorial.

“It’s an honour that we can respect the wishes of the donors and also honour those that have been in the facility and have used (it) and have seen the need for the things that are required to keep that home homey and safe for the residents there,” explained George.

These donation dollars came from many donations over time, and George said they stockpiled this money for a larger purchase.

“If they say they want (their donation to be used) for Parkland Place residents, this is one of the places that it goes,” George said.

She added the NCHCF has also recently replaced all the tables and chairs in all five homes of Parkland Place, and all the over-bed tables. There are 108 rooms in the facility, and George said it takes a lot of donations to make these purchases.

The cost of purchasing anything with ‘health’ attached to it causes the cost to skyrocket, said George.

“Who knew you could spend $56,000 for a bathtub, but we have.”

The organization just bought a bariatric bed for Parkland Place for $33,000, and George said they need three more of those beds in the facility.

“We absolutely appreciate every donation, big, small, or whatever.”

To donate to the North Central Health Care Foundation, you can visit their website, drop off a donation at Parkland Place or the Melfort Hospital, or mail it to them.
