Trojans Fall Camp underway

Aug 17, 2024 | 8:00 AM

The Tisdale Trojans are looking for their next best set of players, who will lead them to success.

Earlier on Friday, over 100 young prospects arrived at the Recplex, as they get set for a three-day Fall Camp.

“We get to look at the competitiveness and who wants to be here, we get to look at the kids that are coming in new and seeing if they fit in with the group from last year. Our goal this year and really this weekend is just to see who’s ready and who’s not,” explained head coach Wes Rudy.

“We’re looking for work ethic, if we don’t start now and the kids don’t understand that the minimum requirement to play on the Tisdale Trojans is 100 per cent, that has to be ingrained this weekend. We can’t wait until mid-September. I’ll take hard work over skill any day because if you have all the skill in the world but nobody wants to compete for a puck, you’re in trouble.”

Last year’s Trojans group saw a revamp of grit and determination, as the previous basement dwellers rose up the ranks, even earning themselves a playoff series victory.

With higher expectations set and some of their most talented players moving on, Tisdale is looking for the best and brightest, both locally and across the province.

“Every year is a new year and you always have to go back to the ground level to start. You need to go right back to the ground roots, then work your way through the whole process again. Every year is new challenges and relearning… I think Tisdale sets kids up better for junior hockey because our team probably spends more time together as a team than any other team in the league,” Rudy added.

“You want to put the best product on the ice and if you can do it locally, that’s even better. We need to be competitive… A lot of people think I must be disappointed when our best players don’t come back, but that’s what our team is designed to do. If kids succeed as underagers in Junior, then that looks good on our program.”

The Fall/Prospects Camp will run until Sunday, as practices, scrimmages, tours, and games are all part of the deal.

The days will begin as early as 8:30 a.m. and run as late as 9 p.m.
