The Humboldt Broncos have added a goaltender to the mix for the rapidly approaching SJHL season.

Edouard Gauthier of Blainville, QC has committed to playing for the Broncos after spending last season with Blainville-Boisbrand of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The 2004-born goaltender posted a 7-12-2 record with a 3.67 GAA and a .885 SV% for the Armada in 25 games last season.

Gauthier was drafted 121st overall by the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL in 2020.

He will look to replace former goaltender Ben Motew, who left in the offseason.

“Obviously there’s a big hole to fill with [Ben] Motew not returning this season,” said Head Coach and GM Brayden Klimosko. “Edouard has a great deal of experience having played in the QMJHL and we feel he will be an excellent replacement. He’s an athletic goalie that has decent size and we’re excited to have him as a Bronco for the upcoming season.”

The Broncos lost a hard-fought seven-game series against the eventual SJHL champion Melfort Mustangs in the second round.

Humboldt opens the preseason with a game in Kindersley on Sept. 6.
