Aug 21, 2024 | 6:15 PM

All eyes are on the sky as forecasters try to predict whether a storm capable of producing a tornado will materialize.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that was located 8 kilometres west of Rosthern, moving east at 30 km/h as of 6 p.m Wednesday night. They said ping pong ball size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts are possible and encouraged the public to take cover if threatening weather approaches.

A public alert warning about the possible development of a tornado was issued shortly after 5:30 p.m. for Laird, Rosthern, Duck Lake and Shellbrook.

A severe thunderstorm warning or watch blanketed much of the province Wednesday night.
