Trojans begin pre-season schedule against Yorkton Maulers

The Tisdale Trojans will hit the ice at the Recplex Friday night for their first pre-season matchup of the 2024/25 campaign.

Tisdale will welcome the Yorkton Maulers to town, as both teams begin their exhibition schedule.

“I think with the weather we’ve had it’s a little tough to get real excited about going to the rink, but hockey is hockey and we only do this because we love it. It’s still for the love of the game and it’s hard not to get excited when you’re getting ready for your first pre-season game,” Trojans Head Coach Wes Rudy told northeastNOW.

“We’re a blue-collar team so our number one thing on the checklist is to work hard this preseason. We also have some pretty skilled guys on our team, so we’re looking to be heavy and fast. We want to get our guys dialled in on what they need to do and figure out where we can look for growth.”

Tonight’s (Friday) game will mark the first of three pre-season games for Tisdale, as they’re set to travel to Yorkton on Sunday before welcoming the Prince Albert Mintos next Friday (Sept. 20).

With just a trio of exhibition games in between the Trojans and their regular season opener, which goes Sept. 28th in Estevan, coach Rudy is relying on the returnees’ understanding of expectations surrounding this team.

“They know what made us successful last year was our efforts and that we were a hard team to play against. While that recipe doesn’t necessarily guarantee you success, it sure puts you on the right path, especially when it comes to your willingness to compete day in and day out,” he added.

“We’re going to have a few different kids in the lineup where we can look at them and see how they fit in with our group and where their abilities are at. When you look at the preseason, it’s more or less looking at our group to see who plays well together, whose speeds match up, and do we have a group that’s close to starting season ready.”

As it stands right now, the organization really only has one roster spot to fill, as they wait and see if any players currently at Major Junior or Junior A camps will be returning.

While Tisdale doesn’t necessarily have any cuts to make, not everyone has been promised the world, as things could change in the next couple of weeks.

Puck drop for the preseason opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
