Trojans hire additional personnel for hockey operations

The Tisdale Trojans have made a pair of personnel additions to their hockey club this week.

Tisdale now has a new Director of Player Personnel, along with a new Associate and Skill Development Coach.

Both are positions the club did not have last season, as the board allowed General Manager Travis Janke to make some improvements.

“I think we kinda had a few areas where we thought we could do a better job and make the team better. We’re just trying to kind of round out our club and make it a more balanced program that is able to kind of do everything we hope the organization can offer to our players,” Janke told northeastNOW.

“Last year we had a fairly small staff and we realized that maybe there wasn’t enough time for everyone to handle everything. The board allowed us to bring some extra help in, and hopefully, we’re able to kind of manage everything we want to happen for the organization.”

Dennis Pott is the new director of player personnel, having previously served with the Prince Albert Mintos and Melfort Mustangs as a scout.

Spending the last seven years in that role, Pott most recently experienced the highest level of success in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League by winning the league Championship.

“I believe the recruiting and tracking of prospects is a huge part of AAA hockey in Saskatchewan and that is what I am excited about doing with the Tisdale Trojans. I am looking forward to working closely with the team to continue building something special here,” said Pott.

As for the new associate and skill development coach, it will be Rylan Freed taking on the role.

Freed played three seasons with the Trojans, before going on to have a long junior career that included playing for his hometown Melfort Mustangs.

He has experience in the skill development area and is set to work with many minor hockey associations in the northeast.

“I’m looking forward to working alongside the Trojan staff to continue with the development of our players and help them reach their next level,” Freed explained.

Both Pott and Freed are set to play important roles in a Tisdale hockey club that showed drastic improvement last season.

According to Janke, they will both bring a lot to the table this season.

“We brought Dennis on board here because his values aligned with the way we see the program going. His ability to watch more of these hockey players and get in contact with them a little bit before their time comes to play in this league will help bring players here, maybe a little earlier than they may have came here otherwise, and let them know what we have to offer as a program,” concluded Janke.

“And then with Rylan and his knowledge of the skills of hockey, our goal is to move our players onto the next level, and I think with the way he’s able to work with the individual players on their skills, he can more help develop the individual hockey player.”
