Police presence ends on Fishing Lake First Nation

Sep 24, 2024 | 1:32 PM

UPDATE: Police say an incident on the Fishing Lake First Nation has ended. The public is asked to stay away from the scene as a heavy police presence continues. An earlier version of this story stated Desjarlais was arrested, but police have not confirmed that fact. NortheastNOW will update this story when more information becomes available.

RCMP are cautioning residents of Fishing Lake First Nation of an increased police presence in the community.

It’s related to the ongoing effort to apprehend Joseph “Joey” Desjarlais, who is wanted in connection to robberies in the RM of Spalding, Wadena, and Yorkton.

RCMP received information this morning that the 34-year-old may be in the Fishing Lake First Nation area.

Residents are asked to avoid areas where officers are present, and to follow police directions provided to them.

Police caution residents to avoid approaching Desjarlais, and instead report any sightings or suspicious activity immediately by dialing 310-RCMP.

RCMP said in their news release updates will be provided when possible.
