Vehicle fire near Nipawin and at James Smith Cree Nation

Fire crews have responded to two vehicle fires in the area.

The first was near Nipawin Monday afternoon, when the Nipawin Fire Department was called to a car fire east of town.

The vehicle owner quickly called 9-1-1 when she saw smoke and flames coming out from under the hood while she was unloading groceries.

Crews quickly put out the fire, and there were no injuries.

The Kinistino Fire Department was called to a vehicle fire at James Smith Cree Nation early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews arrived and the vehicle was smouldering when they got there.

The fire was put out and crews left the scene less than two hours later.

SGI statistics from 2019 to 2023 show that on average there are 882 vehicle fires per year in the province. There have been 654 in Saskatchewan so far in 2024.
