Hawks head south for three game road trip
The Nipawin Hawks hit the highway Thursday for a three game road trip that begins in Notre Dame against the Hounds.
The stint away from the Centennial Arena continues with a matchup in Estevan Friday and Weyburn on Saturday. Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun has made it customary to schedule one of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s southern swings for the team early in the year for several reasons.
“It’s always good to get of town, especially early in the year,” he said. “We don’t have many nights in hotels so it’s nice to get out early, get on the road. They have to spend time on the bus, hang out in the hotel room. We’re gone for three days so it’s nice to see the guys connect in that sort of way. We’re looking forward to hitting the road.”
The club will also load the bus with a goal of collecting their first victory of the season. The Hawks have lost three one goal games in the first trio of games of the year, last Saturday the team gave up five goals in the third period to the Battlefords. Kozun is preaching patience with his young team and not sounding any alarm bells quite yet.
