Hawks shut out for first time this season
The Nipawin Hawks were blanked 5-0 Thursday by the Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) lone matchup.
Despite still seeking their first win in now five games, the Hawks had reached the scoresheet and kept the games tight until back-to-back five goal losses. Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun said the team has faltered since three one-goal losses to start the year.
“First three games of the year we’re talking about how well we played and it’s going to come,” he said on the postgame show of Nipawin Chrysler Dodge Hawks Hockey on Beach Radio. “Now these last two, we have kind of lost our way. We will break down the video, we will come up with a gameplan for tomorrow night because we’re right back on the horse and we have to be ready to go.”
The Hawks started the game well, had a couple opportunities in the opening few shifts, but couldn’t beat Spencer Borsos in the Notre Dame net. The Hounds did score early, took a 2-0 lead in the first on a powerplay and essentially never looked back. Kozun said despite a young roster with just one 2004-born player the compete level lacked in the loss.
