Candidates revealed in Melfort, Nipawin, Humboldt for municipal election

Glenn George will return as mayor in Melfort.

George was acclaimed as mayor after no other candidates put their name forward for the upcoming election.

Four of six councillors are vying to return to council chambers, including Brian Enge, Trent Mitchell, Tara Muntain, and Doug Terry.

Also throwing their hat into the ring for councillor are Adrian Bourgeois, Darryl Benson, Rick Fettis, Michael Gerski, and Seth McNaughton.

Benson and McNaughton have previous council experience.

Current councillors April Phillips and Tim Hoenmans elected not to run in this election.

The Town of Nipawin has three mayoral candidates, including incumbent Marlon Zacharias.

Running to replace Zacharias are Kerry Skoworonski, a former councillor, and former fire chief Brian Starkell, who finished 84 votes back of the mayor in last October’s by-election.

Current councillors Sheila Seiferling, Geoff Stewart, and Stacey Vik are seeking re-election.

Also running for councillor are Brenda Beliveau, Les Blair, John Dempster, Lisa Fast, Reg Lariviere, Linden Lundback, Kylee Neudorf, Laura Nycholat (who also ran for mayor in last year’s by-election), Tyler Shore, and Joyce Watts, also a former councillor.

There is also a three-way race for mayor in Humboldt.

Former mayor and current councillor Rob Muench will take on Harley Bentley and Andrew Breker for the mayor’s chair.

Current mayor Michael Behiel will not seek re-election.

Ten people are vying to become a councillor.

They include current councillors Larry Jorgenson, Amanda Klitch, and Roger Korte.

Also in the running are Clayton Armstrong, Darcy Leonew, Sarah McInnis, Dave Rowe, Marilyn Scott, and Karen Siermachesky.

Current councillors Kelly Herperger and Roger Nordick chose not to run for re-election.

All candidates have until 4pm Thursday to withdraw their nominations.

The municipal election is being held in communities province-wide Nov. 13.
