Mustangs return to Flin Flon for first time since last year’s Finals

The Melfort Mustangs hit the road north Friday, as they return to Flin Flon for the first time since late April.

The Mustangs have already beaten their division rival Bombers once this season, during their home opener.

Melfort took that game by a score of 6-2, in front of their home crowd, as they’ll now try and do the same thing in the always raucous Whitney Forum.

“Most of the boys love playing there, I love playing there, it’s a crazy environment and atmosphere, so it’s fun, and we’re all excited to get back in there,” said Mustangs’ forward Kaleb Binner.

“We want to go in and get four points against Flin Flon. It’s a tough rink to play in on Friday night, but last year, with the guys that are coming back, we all know what it takes to win there, so it’s gonna be an exciting weekend, for sure.”

The Stangs are coming off a home-and-home split with the Melville Millionaires last weekend, where each team handed one another their first losses of the season.

Now, Melfort is ready for another back-to-back, this time against the Bombers, and are hoping to set the tone Friday, before coming back home for a Saturday night contest.

“It’s definitely fun to play back-to-backs, it can get a little interesting the second game with bad blood flowing over, but I like it. I like seeing the different approaches and playing styles teams take to different arenas. I like it in that sense, so we’re excited for this weekend,” Binner added.

“Obviously we’re going in there with the hope of two points, that’s the goal, which it is all the time. It is definitely huge if we have a full 60 minutes and a 110% effort, that’s a goal, and we’ll just see how the rest of the weekend plays out.”

Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. in Manitoba, which means 6:30 p.m. Saskatchewan Time.
