The Melfort Mustangs have now won two-in-a-row following their 5-1 victory over the Kindersley Klippers on Friday night at the Northern Lights Palace.

The Mustangs rode a three-goal first period to the win, which was also supported by three powerplay goals in a game that saw a combined 46 penalty minutes.

Austin Shepherd and Nicholas Andrusiak both had a goal and an assist for Melfort, while Nolan Patterson, Danton Cox, and Reilley Kotai added goals of their own in the win. Also finding the scoresheet was Zayden Sadlemyer, Cole Unger, Ty Thornton, Nolan Roberts, Ashton Hutchinson, and Zac Somers who each tacked on an assist.

Kristian Coombs was near perfect in goal for the Green and Blue, making 24 saves to help the Mustangs improve to 7-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the campaign.

For Kindersley, Alex Mack was the lone goal scorer who ended Coombs’ shutout bid with less than two minutes to go in the game. Picking up the helpers on the play was Stein Dostal and Braden Cunningham. Brett O’Halloran got the start between the pipes for the Klippers, making eight saves on 11 shots before being pulled at the start of the second. Nathan Claydon came in as the backup and tallied 22 stops as Kindersley falls to 6-4-0-0 on the year.

Melfort is set to get back on the ice for their next contest 24 hours later on Saturday when they head to Nipawin for their first look at the Hawks this season. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
