Mustangs climb CJHL Top 20 ranking; Thornton SJHL D-man of the week

The Melfort Mustangs have climbed the ladder in the latest Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top 20 rankings.

Melfort is now ranked number eight in the country, up from 16th last week.

The Mustangs are riding a three-game winning streak after a 5-1 win over Kindersley on Friday and a 6-2 victory in Nipawin on Saturday.

Melfort will host the Battlefords North Stars at the Palace tonight (Tuesday).

Meanwhile, veteran Mustangs blue liner Ty Thornton was named the SuperU Defenceman of the Week in the SJHL.

Thornton had two goals and an assist in two games last week.

Humboldt native Brady Holtvogt was named the Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week.

The 17-year-old earned a 1-0 shutout win over La Ronge in his SJHL debut.
