As we await an RCMP update on Monday afternoon’s school bus crash near Tisdale, the North East School Division Director of Education has issued a statement.

“Yesterday a bus driver and 27 of our Tisdale Middle and Secondary students were involved in a school bus accident that occurred shortly after school near Kinistin,” said Stacy Lair in the statement issued on social media. “Some were airlifted for medical attention, and we were informed that some have serious injuries.”

Lair said the division sends its sincerest gratitude to all emergency responders and health practitioners for their quick response and care.

“On behalf of all of us at NESD we are sending our healing thoughts and wishes for a quick recovery to those involved,” Lair added.

The statement went on to say that for further details, residents can see the expected RCMP update later Tuesday.

On Monday night, RCMP stated the bus driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries in the single vehicle crash, 22 kilometres southwest of Tisdale.

The area was closed to traffic for several hours after the incident.
