Mustangs edge Bombers after three-goal outburst

Oct 31, 2024 | 9:24 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are back in the win column after a 3-2 victory over the Flin Flon Bombers at the Northern Lights Palace Wednesday night.

The Mustangs’ five-game winning streak was snapped over the weekend.

After a scoreless first period, Flin Flon opened the scoring with a Carter Anderson powerplay goal less than six minutes into the second frame.

But the Mustangs scored three goals within 1:17 as Owen Nelson scored his first of the season with about four and a half minutes to play in the second.

Fifty-seven seconds later, Nolan Roberts’ fourth of the season made it 2-1 Melfort, and just 20 seconds after that, Nolan Patterson’s third goal of the campaign expanded the lead to two goals for the Mustangs.

Ryder Ringor, brother of newly-acquired Mustang Rylan Ringor, netted his sixth of the season with under five minutes left to make it a one-goal game, but that’s as close as it would get.

Kristian Coombs would make 38 saves in the victory for the Mustangs, who are off until next Friday when they travel to Flin Flon.
