Parent/Billet Appreciation Week

Mustangs welcome Bruins to begin three-game homestand

Nov 13, 2024 | 12:52 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will play their first of three home games on the week tonight (Wednesday) when they host the Estevan Bruins.

The meeting between the two clubs will be the third of four on the year, with the previous two being played in southern Saskatchewan.

Melfort won both of the prior matchups in Estevan, however, just by a single goal each time.

The Mustangs earned victories on Sept. 27 and Oct. 25 by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 respectively.

Ahead of tonight’s contest, Melfort is set to honour one of their former head coaches with a pregame ceremony.

Kevin Dickie will be welcomed back to the Palace, right before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time, and will even perform the ceremonial puck drop.

Dickie was the head coach of the Mustangs from 1991 until 1996.

Later this week, the Stangs will then play host to the Nipawin Hawks (Friday) and Notre Dame Hounds (Saturday) as they celebrate Parent/Billet Appreciation Weekend.

The festivities will include jersey auctions, a pancake breakfast, and the annual Calcutta auction and shootout.

The Blue and Green are looking to respond this week with multiple victories, having lost their only game played in the last 14 days.

Melfort fell to the Flin Flon Bombers 6-2 at the Whitney Forum this past Friday, following the league’s roughly week break due to the Western All-Star Showcase.

The Mustangs now sit in third place in the league standings, albeit having played three and four fewer games than the teams in front of them.

The Stangs currently hold the second-best win percentage in the SJHL (.733), holding an 11-4 record.

Set to face the Bruins, Hawks, and Hounds, the Blue and Green are hopeful to come out with three victories, as their opponents are currently the bottom three teams in the standings.
