Mustangs complete weekend sweep in Kindersley

Nov 25, 2024 | 4:19 AM

The Melfort Mustangs won their fifth game in a row Saturday night, taking down the Kindersley Klippers by a score of 3-1.

The victory also gave the Mustangs the weekend sweep over the Klippers in the process, following a 4-3 W on Friday, as Melfort is now 3 and 0 against Kindersley this season.

“Obviously not the two prettiest wins on the road, but two ugly road wins are awesome,” said assistant coach Tye Scherger.

“The biggest thing is the boys bought into how to get it done, if it’s ugly or it’s pretty, it doesn’t matter because two points is two points.”

Madden Mulawka played a huge part in securing the two points, as the rookie goaltender is now 9 and 0 this year, after stopping 43 of 44 on the night.

“He stood on his head… right from the start I knew he was focused and wanted it bad, and it sure showed. We have two studs in net who are at the top of the league, so we’re super proud of them,” Scherger added.

The Stangs scored the first three goals of the game, all of which came in the opening period, with two of the three coming on the powerplay.

The Blue and Green then gave up their lone goal of the game in the second, which came on the penalty kill.

In total, there were 15 powerplays between the two teams as the refs had quite a busy night.

Melfort will now travel to La Ronge on Tuesday to battle with their divisional rival Ice Wolves.

The Mustangs will be going for six in a row, after picking up their first victory on Saturday during their win streak, which wasn’t won by just a single goal.
