Nipawin host North Stars in rescheduled game

A week late, but the Hawks will host the Battlefords Tuesday after a snowstorm forced a postponement Nov. 19.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) clubs haven’t seen each other since each other since Sept. 28 in North Battleford, the North Stars were victorious 6-1. Nipawin is coming off a weekend where they dropped a pair of games against Flin Flon. Head Coach Tad Kozun said he felt his team got away from what made them successful the weekend prior in Melfort and Humboldt.

“I thought kind of took a step back just watching the games back, we weren’t very structured in our details and made some mistakes we haven’t that we haven’t made for a little bit. I thought we just got running around a little too much,” Kozun said.

The North Stars lost both of their games on the weekend as well against the Estevan Bruins.

The Hawks have struggled this year and sit in the SJHL basement. With their young roster Kozun said the team needs to continue to show progress and build together.

“The biggest thing for us is we’ve obviously been dealing with adversity all year with where we’re at, we can’t avoid it or run from it, we need to flourish within it and come out stronger as a team,” he added.

Nipawin played sporadically over the first couple months of the season, from Tuesday to the Christmas break on Dec. 21 the club plays every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Kozun welcomes the challenge of playing more over the next month.

“We have to do it together, if we start to get individual now it’s only going to make it worse. We must stick together, face the adversity head on and get out of it,” Kozun concluded.

Faceoff is 7 p.m. at the Centennial Arena.

Nipawin hosts Yorkton Friday and concludes November in Humboldt on Saturday.
