Melfort Rotary Carol Festival delights crowd

The 74th annual Melfort Rotary Carol Festival was full of Christmas cheer.

The Rotary Club of Melfort hosted the event at the Melfort United Church on Sunday.

The show featured 20 separate performances of Christmas classics and modern holiday hits.

Shelby Murphy kicked things off by performing Sarah McLachlan’s River and Last Christmas by Wham!

Katie Toews followed up with her rendition of Winter Wonderland.

That was followed up by Josephina Hovdestad performing Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy on piano.

The Northeast Community Band Ensemble, directed by Adrian Bourgeois, performed Hark, the Herald Angels Sing and ‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime.

Gavin Enns then sang Jingle Bell Rock, which was followed by the Grade 4-6 Brunswick School Choir singing Santa Bring Me Snow and Must Be Santa.

Tara Muntain sang and trumpeted O Holy Night, and Jennifer Summach performed You Raise Me Up and O Come, O Come Emmanuel on the violin.

The Tisdale and District Strings were next up with The First Noel and Deck The Halls.

The Grade 1-3 Brunswick School Choir, with director Jodi Allen-Corbett, performed Jingle Bells and Santa Was His Name.

Lucy Turner sang Let It Be Christmas, and the Turner Girls sang and performed Christmas Hallelujah along with Mary’s Boy Child, the Boney M classic.

Violinist Helena Chester performed What Child Is This? and O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Taya Hope Bennett sang I’m Gettin Nuttin for Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Alison Summach and Astrid Schmale followed up with Away in a Manger and My Favorite Things.

Samuel Peterson on violin performed Air on a G String and Messiah, Come. His performance was followed by Tara Muntain and Chris Corbett. The duet performed the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, and White Christmas, as performed by Michael Buble and Shania Twain.

The Melfort United Church Choir performed The Snow Begins to Fall and Tilt Your Candle, and the show closed with the Rotary Club of Melfort and the United Church Choir teaming up to perform See Amid the Winter’s Snow.

Donations were taken at the show, and over $5,300 was raised for the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Fund.
