Hawks host Terriers looking to keep home winning streak alive
The Hawks are on home ice again Tuesday seeking their fourth straight victory at the Centennial Arena.
Nipawin has points in their last four games at home including a 4-3 shootout loss to the Battlefords on Nov. 26. The Hawks have disposed of Yorkton and the Estevan Bruins twice in that span. On Friday the Hawks downed the Bruins 5-3 led by Finley Radloff’s natural hat trick. On Saturday Nipawin was down to nine forwards and lost veteran defenceman Henry Smith during the game but the group never wavered according to Head Coach Tad Kozun.
“We got off to a little bit of a slow start and we’re down going into the third period,” Kozun said. “When you are losing some key bodies, the guys never quit, they dug in deep and found a way to get the victory. Couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Second year Hawk forward Eric Hoiness scored the game winning goals in both games over the weekend against Estevan. Following the victory Saturday the 19-year-old Saskatoon product said the ‘Cage’ was electric and the weekend was the biggest for him in a Nipawin jersey. Kozun said this season’s group is different and has an alternative mindset when down going to the third period. Of Nipawin’s six wins this year, four are comeback triumphs.
