Heliport funding

Nipawin Council agrees to chip in to cover final Heliport invoices

The Town of Nipawin will be kicking in a little more money toward the Heliport project to get over the final hurdle – at least temporarily.

The Heliport, an initiative of the Twin Lakes District Planning Commission, will be operational after some staff training and certification. However, donations toward the project have fallen just a bit short of the final costs so far.

Nipawin has decided to chip in for part of the remainder of the cost to make the project operational.

“We’d like to have all of the costs paid now that the Heliport has been completely built and it’s ready to go,” Chief Administrative Officer Michele Sorensen told northeastNOW.

Sorensen said there are just a few more invoices to go and there needs to be just a bit more fundraising to pay those invoices.

“It was proposed that the RM of Nipawin and the RM of Torch River, and the Town of Nipawin cover the cost on a percentage basis just so that we can get those final invoices paid,” said Sorensen.

Once more donations are received, the three municipalities would be paid back the money they provided for those final bills. Sorensen said they are anticipating more donations that haven’t come in yet, but they wanted to ensure all of the outstanding invoices were dealt with as quickly as possible.

On Monday, Nipawin council agreed to approve an amount of $27,107.39 to cover 50 per cent of the final invoiced costs for the project, with their portion to come from the Stabilization Reserve.

The RM’s of Torch River and Nipawin will each cover 25 per cent of the shortfall.
