Christmas Hampers

Hundreds of Salvation Army Christmas Hampers for Melfort, Tisdale area residents

Dec 12, 2024 | 11:11 AM

The Salvation Army Christmas Hamper campaign is winding down in Melfort and Tisdale.

The organization distributes Christmas hampers to those in need during the holiday season.

Glenna Cryderman of the Salvation Army told northeastNOW they will be distributing roughly the same number of hampers as last year.

“Right now we’re doing about…175 hampers to Melfort and area,” Cryderman said. “In Tisdale we’re doing another 75 hampers.”

The hampers in past years have typically included food items, gift cards, and toys for children. Donations are still being accepted for the campaign.

“They can still donate by dropping off their cash or donations,” said Cryderman. “If it’s in an envelope with the cash or cheque in an envelope they can even put in in the Christmas Kettles and they will get a receipt as long as it’s in an envelope.”

Donations can also be received at the Salvation Army Thrift Store and a receipt would be issued, but it needs to be in an envelope with your name and address.

Cryderman said any money raised here that is not used during the campaign is used locally during the year.

“It does not leave the community when it’s raised here.”

The recent Melfort Rotary Carol Festival helped raise over $5300 that went toward the campaign, which was graciously received.

The hampers in Tisdale will be distributed on Monday, Dec. 16, while Melfort’s hampers will be handed out on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Cryderman said the Christmas Day meal will take place from 11:30 to 1 o’clock, and they are still looking for volunteers. Anyone interested can contact Glenna through the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Melfort.
