Mustangs host Terriers for first meeting of the season

Jan 11, 2025 | 6:24 PM

For the first time this season, the Melfort Mustangs and the Yorkton Terriers will face off.

The two teams were supposed to play each other, back in November, however, the game was postponed due to poor road conditions.

Now, the Mustangs and the Terriers will battle at the Northern Lights Palace, with both hoping to get back in the win column.

Melfort had their 17-game win streak ended in Battlefords on Tuesday, with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the North Stars.

Meanwhile, Yorkton had their eight-game win streak ended on Sunday by the Weyburn Red Wings, also losing to them on Wednesday.

Both clubs were very quiet yesterday, during the SJHL’s annual trade deadline day, as the only move was made by the Stangs.

The Blue and Green acquired the second-round pick in the 2025 (2009) draft, from the Notre Dame Hounds, in exchange for a PDF.

Melfort was supposed to be busy with a game on Friday when they were set to host the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the Ice Wolves’ team bus, which prevented La Ronge from travelling down.

That contest has been postponed to a later date, which has yet to be announced.

Saturday night’s contest between the Terriers and the Mustangs will begin with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

The rematch will be played next Friday when Melfort travels down to Yorkton.
