Several Mustangs named to SJ/MJ Showcase rosters

The Melfort Mustangs will be well represented at the 2025 SJHL/MJHL Showcase later this month in Winnipeg.

The rosters for the three teams were announced on Thursday and nine Mustangs were selected amongst the 60 players chosen.

Eight of Melfort’s skaters will play together on one of two 20U teams, while the other will suit up for the 18U team.

Logan Belton, Ashton Hutchinson, Reilley Kotai, Zac Somers, Nik Andrusiak, Nolan Roberts, Ty Thornton, and Kristian Coombs will have familiarity on the bench, as Mustang’s bench boss Trevor Blevins has been selected as head coach for the 20U team.

Madden Mulawka will be one of the two goalies on the 18U Blue Team.

The Showcase will take place from Jan. 27 to 29, beginning with team practices on the 27th.

Each team will play twice, with three games set for both the 28th and 29th. This is the sixth SJ/MJ Showcase.

“The MJ/SJ Showcase is one of the premier events of our season,” said SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.

“It is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the best 20U and 18U players in the SJHL. As always, we expect a fast and physical game each time out, and this is a rivalry and a series where both leagues and our players come to play every game.”

Other northeast hockey players selected to the rosters include Connor Miller, Kye Benoche, Boris Kofman, Jacob Strizzi, Tre Fouquette, and Oakley McIlwain from the Humboldt Broncos. They will also have their head coach Brayden Klimosko there, serving as an assistant under Blevins.

As for the Nipawin Hawks, Will Whitter, Ashton Tait, and Mason Karakochuk will represent their club on the 18U Blue Team.
