Tisdale residents cautioned about coyote sightings

Feb 3, 2025 | 5:39 PM

The Town of Tisdale is issuing a warning about coyotes in the area.

“We want to inform our residents that multiple coyotes were spotted in the Doghide Trails this past weekend,” their social media post stated. “Please take extra caution when walking in the area, especially with pets and small children.”

The post reminded residents not to touch or feed coyotes, and approach the animals, their den, or their young. People are also being told to keep their dogs on a leash.

“If you see a coyote, do not run but make some noise to scare it away,” the post recommended.

Residents are reminded to dispose of garbage or waste properly so as not to attract the animals.

“With pointed ears, a slender muzzle, and a drooping bushy tail, the coyote often resembles a German shepherd or collie,” the post read. “Coyotes are usually a grayish brown with reddish tinges behind the ears and around the face, but coloration can vary from silver-gray to black.”

The post said a coyote’s tail usually has a black tip, and their eyes are yellow rather than the brown of many domestic dogs.
