Hawks set to try and upset Bombers

The Hawks host the vaunted Flin Flon Bombers Tuesday in Nipawin.

With Flin Flon riding a 26 game point streak including an impressive blanking of Melfort Saturday at home, Hawks’ Head Coach Tad Kozun said Nipawin is playing with the house’s money against their Sherwood Division rivals.

“They are a team that is obviously rolling right now,” Kozun said after the team’s game day meeting. “We’ve got to go out there and stick to our gameplan and be on top of them all over the ice. If you give them time and space, they are going to make you pay. We also must be disciplined, their powerplay is pretty good too. We’ve just got to go out there and play free, we have nothing to lose tonight.”

Included in the Bombers impressive stretch that dates to their last regulation loss on Oct. 30, is five wins over the Hawks outscoring them 32 to nine. Those numbers were inflated by the last two matchups in Flin Flon that the Hawks lost 8-2 and 9-2. Kozun said the first four games of the season series were more competitive.

“You look back at the start of the year we were in tight hockey games with them, a couple empty netters inflate the score more than the game dictated. The last couple times we’ve played them haven’t been good outings, but we get them back on home ice tonight and we are looking forward to the challenge,” Kozun concluded.

Nipawin has lost 17 straight to Flin Flon with their last win coming Sept. 17, 2022, at the Centennial Arena.

Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
