Man injured in machete attack in Humboldt

Feb 13, 2025 | 9:31 AM

Humboldt RCMP have made an arrest after a machete attack in the city.

Police were called about an assault in a business parking lot on Feb. 6.

The investigation determined a man who was armed with a machete approached two men in a parking lot, with one of the men being injured in the incident.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and there is no update on his condition.

RCMP said the suspect and the two men did not know each other.

Officers found the suspect in a parked vehicle on a rural property near Humboldt the following day. They approached the vehicle and determined the man was armed with a hatchet. RCMP say the man threatened self-harm and threatened the officers on the scene.

Officers deployed a conductive energy device, or stun gun, and the man was arrested. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

48-year-old Dominic O’Rourke is charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of assault on a peace officer with a weapon, and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

O’Rourke will be in court on March 3.
