US Vice President JD Vance’s office says he met German far-right leader Alice Weidel
MUNICH (AP) — U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s office says he met the leader of a German far-right party during a trip to Germany.
In a speech before the Munich Security Conference he had lectured European leaders about the state of democracy and said there is no place for “firewalls.”
Vance met Friday with Alice Weidel, the co-leader and candidate for chancellor of the far-right and anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party.
Mainstream German parties say they won’t work with the party, which polls put in second place ahead of the Feb. 23 election.
