Final Meeting

Mustangs seeking redemption in Battlefords

Feb 18, 2025 | 4:24 PM

The Melfort Mustangs travel to North Battleford on Tuesday, as they’ll take on the North Stars for the final time this season.

Once again, Melfort will enter the game on a solid win streak, but this time around they hope it won’t be ended.

When these two teams last met in Battlefords, back on Jan. 7, the Mustangs were on a 17-game winning streak, just one shy of breaking the modern-era SJHL record.

In the contest, with a shot at history on the line though, the Norths Stars played David and slayed Goliath, winning the match by a score of 3-1.

And while that is the only loss for the Stangs in this particular matchup, having won the previous two at home by a combined score of 12-1, a season series win is still on the line tonight, as well as revenge.

“I’m sure the boys will be fired up for that one, especially taking that first loss we had there. The biggest thing is just coming out and playing hard for a full 60, we have to commit in the D zone, we need to make fewer mistakes, and we have to be hard on the forecheck,” explained assistant coach Tye Scherger.

The Mustangs are winners of their last six games, maintaining their spot atop the league standings.

Meanwhile, the Stars have slid down the leaderboard a bit, as they’re now seventh in the SJHL, crowded in that fifth to eighth clump.

Redemption is on the mind for Melfort, with Battleford playing for key playoff points down the stretch.

The action begins with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop, as the pregame show on 105CJVR starts at 7:15 p.m.
