Spring session of legislative assembly to commence March 19

Feb 18, 2025 | 5:31 PM

The spring sitting of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly will begin on March 19 with the tabling of the 2025-26 Provincial Budget.

According to a statement released by Premier Scott Moe on Tuesday, the session and the budget will focus on delivering for Saskatchewan people.

“We will continue to deliver on our election commitments and deliver better health care, safer communities and the best possible education for our students,” Moe said. “We will also continue to focus on building a strong Saskatchewan economy – one that can withstand the potential tariff threat and protects Saskatchewan jobs.”

Moe added the government will continue to be very engaged in improving Saskatchewan’s trade relationships with the US and in other foreign markets.

Meanwhile the provincial opposition is accusing the Sask Party of ignoring calls for an emergency session to develop and debate a plan to address two potential rounds of job-killing tariffs from United States President Donald Trump.

The NDP also noted that by March 19, if Trump holds to his threats, there will be a 25 per cent tariff on all Saskatchewan exports to the US and the potential of a 50 per cent tariff slapped specifically on steel and aluminum.

“We are staring down the barrel of job-killing tariffs and these guys can’t be bothered to show up for work,” said Saskatchewan NDP House Leader Nicole Sarauer.

“The Sask. Party is tired after 17 years in office and big losses last election. They just aren’t focused on the future. We’ve seen no evidence of a plan to fight these tariffs, diversify Saskatchewan’s economy and deliver jobs and good wages, now and into the future.”
