The City of Melfort is looking to fill a position for finance manager.

Director of Corporate Services Lydia Steffen told northeastNOW the position of treasurer has been updated to finance manager to more accurately reflect the broader scope of responsibilities.

“In addition to financial activities, the role also includes managing staff and leading financial operations,” explained Steffen.

The City is looking for relevant education and experience, strong leadership skills, and a comprehensive understanding of municipal finance regulations and financial management practices, Steffen said.

“This position is responsible for managing the City’s financial activities, including budgeting, revenue collection, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate records, while ensuring compliance with provincial and municipal regulations,” said Steffen.

Steffen added the position was recently posted and the application deadline is in February. The job outline on the City’s website says the deadline is Feb. 20.

However, “[t]he position will remain vacant until a qualified candidate is found,” explained Steffen. “We are actively seeking an individual with the skills and experience necessary to contribute to the effective financial management of the City.”

Steffen added the finance manager is crucial to maintaining the City’s financial health and stability, and the role oversees key financial activities. The position also ensures efficient resource allocation for essential services, mitigates financial risks, and leads staff. Steffen said the successful applicant will provide strategic advice to City leaders to ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term stability for Melfort.
