Feb 20, 2025 | 11:19 AM

An American cabin owner is facing a hefty fine after pleading guilty to operating an illegal outfitter operation in Northern Saskatchewan.

Pinehouse Lake conservation officers were first alerted to the business in 2020 on the southwest shore of Cree Lake, roughly 220 kilometres north of Pinehouse Lake.

Throughout the summer months of 2022 and 2023, they began investigating to gather evidence to support concerns of unlawful outfitting. This included visits by boat and float plane as due to limited access, most summer anglers and outfitting services can only access this area by air.

According to a release, the unnamed American owner pleaded guilty to one count of operating “without an outfitter’s licence endorsed for that activity to act as an outfitter” and was fined $10,000 on Dec. 23, 2024. In addition to the fine, the man was also handed a $4,000 surcharge in La Ronge Provincial Court.
