Three-day weekend

Mustangs busy weekend begins Friday at home against Hawks

Mar 7, 2025 | 6:48 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will welcome the Nipawin Hawks to the Northern Lights Palace on Friday night for their eighth and final meeting of the season.

Melfort is 6 and 1 against the Hawks this season, outscoring them 27-13.

The Mustangs enter the contest on a 12-game point streak, while Nipawin has won seven of their last 10, including their past two.

Tonight’s contest begins a busy weekend schedule for the Stangs, as they will host their year-end awards banquet Saturday night, before hosting the La Ronge Ice Wolves for a Sunday matinee.

The Blue and Green are firmly in first place in the SJHL standings, with a 12-point lead on the Flin Flon Bombers with just five games to go.

Four of their last five contests will be at the Northern Lights Palace.

Melfort has already won earlier this week when they downed the Yorkton Terriers 4-1 on Wednesday night.

This evening’s contest with the Hawks is set for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

Meanwhile, tomorrow’s banquet will begin with 5 p.m. cocktails, and supper and the program to follow.

The Mustangs’ match Sunday with La Ronge is scheduled for 3 p.m.
