A major fundraiser for the North East SPCA gets underway on Monday.

‘Caged for Critters’ is a jail-n-bail style fundraiser that will see various northeast celebrities and other dignitaries put in a cage and only released when they reach their fundraising goal.

North East SPCA spokesperson told northeastNOW the fundraiser should be a lot of fun.

The event will kick off Monday with Ty Thornton of the Melfort Mustangs, City Councillor Tara Muntain, and Daytona Muntain of TJ’s Pizza spending time in the Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter’s kennels.

Among the other special guests during the week will be Beach Radio’s Dave Baker on Tuesday, and Gabby Shukin of 105 CJVR on Thursday, who will be joining after their morning shows.

“Each of them has a personal pledge that they must hit to get out of jail, so that’s the way it works,” explained Wood. “They’re going to be calling a lot of their friends.”

You can help by donating to their release by calling the Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter at 752-7722, and other numbers will also be posted on their social media pages, along with pictures and videos from the fundraiser itself.

If they aren’t successful in reaching their pledge goal by 8 pm, Wood said they will have to spend the night in ‘jail’. He added each day has a special theme, and there will be contests and other fun events during next week’s fundraiser.

The fundraiser has brought in as much as $12,000 in past years.
