New hospital equipment purchased by Nipawin Region Health Foundation

An important piece of medical equipment is now at the Nipawin Hospital, thanks to the generosity of supporters of the Nipawin Region Hospital Foundation (NRHF).

The facility is now equipped with the Belmont Rapid Infuser RI-2, purchased with the money raised from the 2024 Panhandler Charity Classic golf tournament.

Foundation Executive Director Danielle Armstrong told northeastNOW the equipment will help in emergent situations at the hospital.

The device warms fluid, whether medication or blood, at rapid rates to help trauma and surgical patients receive critical care quickly. The infuser has precise temperature control, air detection and removal, and other features. The Foundation said it is a game-changer for emergency and surgical teams.

Armstrong said the Panhandler is always an amazing event.

“We raised $70,000, so that was one of the purchases we made [from the tournament proceeds],” said Armstrong. The sticker price for a rapid infuser is $60,000.

“There are so many pieces of equipment that, without the Foundation, they wouldn’t acquire, or it would take years to go through the capital purchasing processes to get,” Armstrong said. She added there is also a risk that the purchase could be denied even though the proper purchasing processes are followed, due to budget constraints.

The NRHF is hosting their second annual Curling Funspiel fundraiser this weekend at the Nipawin Evergreen Curling Club that will help raise money for future equipment purchases. The Foundation is also this year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie benefactor in Nipawin, and they will receive the proceeds from that fundraiser being held April 28-May 4.
