Local constituencies changing shape in 2025

The federal election is upon us, and there are some changes of note for residents in local communities.

A new election map has led to electoral ridings being altered, meaning many will be voting in a different constituency in 2025 than they did in the last vote in 2021.

Here are the new constituencies in the 2025 Federal Election. (Elections Canada)

The Prince Albert riding has moved slightly to the east and north. The riding now encompasses areas including Prince Albert National Park, Candle Lake, Christopher Lake, Choiceland, White Fox, Debden, Canwood, and the Ahtakakoop and Mistawasis First Nations. Those communities had previously been in the northern riding of Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River.

Residents in the Carrot River and Arborfield areas will now vote for candidates in the Yorkton-Melville riding, moving from the Prince Albert constituency.

Naicam, Spalding, and Watson areas are also in a different riding. They have changed from the Saskatoon-Humboldt constituency to Yorkton-Melville. The Saskatoon-Humboldt riding no longer exists; in its place is the Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek constituency, which encompasses a wide swath from Humboldt, Lake Lenore, and St. Brieux areas all the way west past Hafford, southwest to Delisle and south to Allan.

On the western side of the province, the Battlefords-Lloydminster riding has also changed, and expanded north and east. The new Battlefords-Lloydminster-Meadow Lake constituency extends north to communities like Meadow Lake and Waterhen First Nation, and east to Shell Lake. Kindersley is no longer in the riding, as they are now part of the Swift Current-Grasslands-Kindersley riding.

Meanwhile, residents in LeRoy, Jansen, Drake, Lanigan, Watrous, and Nokomis will vote in the Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan constituency. LeRoy and Jansen were part of Saskatoon-Humboldt in the 2021 election, Lanigan, Watrous, and Drake were in the riding of Blackstrap four years ago, while Nokomis was in Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre.

The election was called on Sunday, and voters will head to the polls Apr. 28.
