Melfort RCMP are looking for your help as they battle ongoing issues with thefts from liquor stores.

In a news release on Wednesday, the Melfort detachment indicated they have dealt with “an unusually high number of shoplifting incidents from liquor stores in Melfort” over the past few days.

There were five such incidents in the city from March 20 to 25.

They were called about a theft of two bottles of alcohol on March 20, and police found the two suspects on Burrows Avenue and arrested them. The bottles were recovered and given back to the liquor store, while a 20-year-old man and 21-year-old woman now face theft charges.

Another incident on Monday saw a man steal a bottle of vodka from a Melfort business and he was captured on surveillance video.

A woman stole a bottle of vodka from a liquor store on Tuesday, and she was arrested near the Canalta Hotel. The bottle was returned to the business, and the 21-year-old Tisdale woman faces a theft charge.

A bottle of booze was stolen from a business that morning by a different woman. She was found along a highway south of Melfort and the 28-year-old faces a theft charge along with other outstanding charges from other police agencies.
