The Town of Nipawin has awarded the tender for their outdoor multi-sport court.

The tender was awarded to Watermaster Irrigation Services Ltd. at this week’s council meeting, for an amount not exceeding $335,000 plus GST.

General Manager of Leisure Services Chelsea Corrigan told northeastNOW the court will hold one basketball court, one tennis court, and four pickleball courts, with two of the pickleball courts sharing the tennis court.

“Watermaster’s proposal stood out because it offered the most versatility and functionality,” Corrigan explained. “Watermaster’s design allows multiple sports to be played simultaneously without interference. This is a key benefit for a multi-sport facility intended to serve various groups at once.”

Corrigan said residents can expect a professionally designed, high-quality asphalt-based court with an acrylic overlay that also features high-efficiency LED lighting and durable fencing. The Watermaster proposal was also the largest of them all with a surface area of 19,200 sq. ft. She said that will ensure there is ample space for recreational activities and organized programming.

According to Corrigan, residents have frequently requested a multi-sport court in Nipawin during community engagement sessions.

Residents have been “consistently expressing the need for more inclusive and flexible recreational spaces that cater to all ages,” Corrigan said. “There have been several requests sent to Council for a sport court.”

The court is seen by Corrigan as encouraging healthy, active living while bringing people together in a safe, inclusive space for youth, families, and older adults.

“It’s a strong investment for Nipawin—one that adds long-term value by making the most of a single recreational space with maximum flexibility and use.”

Construction on the multi-sport court is expected to begin in the spring, with a targeted completion date of Aug. 15.
