Funding for Humboldt

City of Humboldt to receive $226,000 through Housing Accelerator Fund

A local community will receive additional funding through the Government of Canada’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).

Twenty-seven top-performing HAF communities will receive more funding as part of the first round of the program. The goal is to end restrictive zoning and speed up permitting, cutting red tape to fast track at least 112,000 homes in Canada by 2028, “which cities and regions estimate will lead to the creation of over 750,000 new homes for people in towns, cities, and Indigenous communities across Canada over the next decade,” a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation news release said.

The City of Humboldt is the only community in Saskatchewan to receive additional funding. They will get another $226,000 through the HAF. The extra funding is worth almost $74 million and is designed to help fast-track an additional 2,219 housing units over the next two years country-wide. Calgary will receive the most additional money, worth over $22 million.

“To be considered a top performer, communities met their unit forecasts and delivered on their HAF Action Plan commitments for the first year,” said the release. “They also proposed additional initiatives to accelerate housing making them eligible to receive up to 10 per cent of the value of their original agreement in additional funding.”
