Rider training camp returns to Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon next month

The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp is set to return to Griffiths Stadium in May, and there are no changes on the horizon after the CFL club and University of Saskatchewan inked a three-year deal to keep the camp in Saskatoon.

The new agreement means the Green and White will be holding its training camps in Saskatoon through 2027.

“For years, the university community and the Huskies football team have provided us with exceptional support, ensuring we have everything we need to have a successful camp,” Jeremy O’Day, the Riders’ general manager, said in a statement.

“Training Camp is a foundational part of the football season, and we couldn’t be happier to be returning to Saskatoon where year after year our fans welcome us back with open arms.”

The event will kick off with the rookie camp from May 7-9, followed by the main camp, which kicks off on May 11. The team will then return to Regina on May 25 for the final week of camp. A more detailed schedule is expected next month.

“We are always pleased to welcome the Saskatchewan Roughriders to our campus for their training camp,” said Wade Epp, the university’s associate vice-president of campus operations.

“From staying with us and eating with us to showcasing and honing their skills on our fields, the Riders become part of our campus community every year. Watching the team practice has become a tradition for our surrounding community, and we are privileged to showcase everything our university has to offer.”

The Riders’ camp was first held at Griffiths Stadium back in 1972.
