Put a leash on the Terriers

Mustangs go for 2-0 series lead after dominant Game 1 win

Apr 5, 2025 | 4:15 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have a chance at a 2-0 series lead tonight following a very dominant Game 1 performance over the Yorkton Terriers.

Melfort controlled virtually every aspect of Game 1 en route to a 6-1 victory.

“We dominated and it’s good to see, I’m proud to see so many different guys scoring, that just talks about the depth of this team we have, it’s unreal. Last year we relied on our top line, but this year we got all four lines that can produce,” said assistant coach Tye Scherger.

“Any given night, that’s the way we play, we want to be heavy and that’s what we always pick for at camp. We got big, tough boys that are strong and they’re willing to pay the price no matter what. It’s good to see the boys being heavy and tomorrow’s gonna be a good one as well.”

A response from Yorkton is now expected, as they did not have too much going for them Friday night.

According to Scherger, the Mustangs will have to be ready for the push back and keep the pedal on the gas.

“They work hard, you got to give them credit, they’re really skilled. The biggest thing for us is to play the way we play, if we play hard, they’re not gonna have any momentum,” he added.

“We did a good scouting report on them, and their goalies don’t like traffic, and you could tell that in game one, he let a lot of rebounds out, so we just got hungry in front of that net and beared down, which was awesome.”

Puck drop is once again 7:30 p.m., with the pregame show beginning at 7:10 p.m.
