Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek incumbent Kelly Block seeking re-election

Apr 7, 2025 | 4:00 PM

The incumbent in the Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek constituency is looking forward to the next three weeks as the federal election quickly approaches.

Kelly Block has been a Member of Parliament (MP) in the area for the past 17 years.

She told northeastNOW that constituents are engaged in the campaign.

“They have definitely expressed concerns and are ready for a change in government,” Block asserted.

The plan for Block going forward through the next three weeks is to meet with as many constituents as possible. One of the challenges posed by this campaign is the change in constituency boundaries, which will incorporate some new communities. The Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek riding is extensive, extending from Highway 6 all the way to just northwest of Biggar. Despite the changes, Block’s approach remains the same.

“The plan looks similar to those in the past, we spend an awful lot of time driving from community to community,” Block said, adding that she is deliberate in getting into communities new to her riding and introducing herself and hearing their thoughts and concerns.

Block is now a veteran in federal politics and while she has a lot of experience in election campaigns, she said she takes nothing for granted.

“I’ve always worked hard to earn the support of the voters in my riding,” said Block. She said the campaign has a full calendar of door-knocking and other public appearances up until election day.

The Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek MP was part of a full Conservative sweep of Saskatchewan in the previous election, and Block said Saskatchewan’s Conservative caucus has been a strong team and a strong voice whether as the government or the official opposition.

Tariffs are a major topic of conversation on Block’s campaign trail, but she said of equal or more concern to the people she has talked to is the possibility of another four years of a Liberal government.

“[The constituents] have not forgotten about the affordability crisis, the housing crisis, the ever-increasing taxes or the rising crime under the Liberals,” Block said. “They know that we must rebuild our economy so that we can actually negotiate from a position of strength.”

Block said voters in the riding are excited about Conservative leader Pierre Polievere and believe the Conservatives are the party to rebuild the economy.

Federal election day is April 28.
