Fire west of Melfort destroys shop

Crews from two different fire departments responded to a shop fire just west of Melfort on Sunday.

The Melfort Fire Department (MFD) was called to the fire just after 11 a.m.

Flames had burst through the roof of a shop by the time crews arrived, and they began to attack the blaze.

Kinistino Fire was called for mutual aid, and they responded with a tanker, while the MFD used two engines to attack from the south and east side.

The shop was a complete loss, but the fire was contained to that building and crews helped minimize the spread to another nearby shop and other equipment. The roof of a second shed further west caught fire due to some embers, but it was quickly doused.

The Melfort Fire Department thanked Kinistino FD, SaskEnergy and SaskPower for their assistance at the site.

Melfort crews were on scene for just under seven hours.
