Going for a stranglehold

Mustangs sent off for Game 3, hold 2-0 series lead

Apr 8, 2025 | 1:52 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are heading to Yorkton for Game 3 of their second-round series against the Yorkton Terriers.

Melfort will be looking for the 3-0 stranglehold following two impressive wins at home over the weekend to begin the series.

The Mustangs hope to carry over some momentum from that, as well as their special sendoff from the city earlier this morning.

The club was led out of town by emergency services vehicles, as fans littered the streets to wave to their favourite team and salute them towards victory.

If the Stangs were to win Tuesday night, they’d be just one win away from another SJHL Finals appearance.

In games one and two, the Blue and Green dominated the Terriers, outscoring them 9-1.

That added to what has been a perfect season so far in this particular matchup, as Melfort has now won all six meetings, by a combined score of 28-7.

On the road, in two contests, the Mustangs outpaced the Terriers 10-4.

During this postseason run, the Stangs are 1 and 1 away from the Palace, sitting with an even goal differential, scoring six goals and allowing six goals.

As for Yorkton, they are perfect in their own barn, holding a 3 and 0 record and a positive five goal differential, scoring 12 times and allowing seven. Two of their wins, though, did come in overtime.

Game 3 of this series goes this evening from the Westland Insurance Arena, while Game 4 will be on Wednesday.

Both matches will begin with 7 p.m. puckdrops, and you can catch all the action on 105CJVR, as Ben Tompkins will have the call starting at 6:45 p.m. for the pregame shows.
